Dalton Cyr Pledging New Music

There’s nothing that I love more than a good story. My apartment has a bookcase in every room, paintings and pictures cover my walls, I still own way more DVD’s than I should, and there are boxes of CDs in my garage. Though many of these items could be cleared out, they all speak to the storyteller inside me. Somewhere… someone… took the time to mix paint colors, spend hours typing at a computer and writing lyrics with a guitar in their lap. These items tell the story of my life and the lives of those who created them. This month Up & Coming Online sat down with Dalton Cyr a young singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and actor, who’s currently recording his fourth album. This multi-talent finds passion in the art of storytelling; it’s what he does. And this month we’re lucky to share a bit of his story with our readers.

Cyr started young in the arts. He began playing guitar at the age of 7 and began singing at age 9. Around 5th grade, Dalton decided to start writing and performing his songs. Dedicated to his craft from the start, he jumped right into recording an album and released it around the time he turned 12. The album got great feedback from the industry, which encouraged Dalton to pursue his dream. He began performing around his hometown of Jacksonville, FL and went on to record and release more albums. Since then, this impressive talent has received multiple awards for both his music and acting accomplishments, had songs top music charts, has appeared on hit TV show’s and as a supporting lead in a feature film.

It’s the passion Dalton has for his craft that has skyrocketed the young creative’s career. However, it also takes hard work and perseverance to make it in an industry known for breaking hearts. It’s not easy work, but it’s worth it if you can hang in there. He finds inspiration in people who work hard to achieve their goals. “It doesn’t matter what they’re pursuing; it’s just uplifting to watch people work hard for their passion.” Maintaining that positivity has also been a key ingredient to his formula for success. A large part of his work as an artist revolves around collaboration and communication with others. He makes it a point to try and remain a positive force and help those around him. “I think people are quick to voice their concerns and problems on projects. I always try to look at the upside and bring a positive outlook.”

No matter how hard one works, it’s also important to feel supported and maintain motivation through the ups and downs that are sure to come when one is following their dreams. Dalton acknowledges that a big part of his story is both those whose style has influenced his musical career and those who have been behind him every step of the way. “I definitely wouldn’t be where I am right now if not for my parents. They’ve taught me to work hard, and more importantly work smart on the things that matter most and to always strive to be a good person.” When it comes to musical influences, Cyr points to John Mayer and Ed Sheeran as having big impacts on shaping how he looks at his career. “John Mayer has always been my best musical influence. He’s a crazy good guitarist, brilliant songwriter and lyricist, and (I think) one of the most compelling artists working right now. He has such a way of connecting the mundane world with our imaginations, hopes, and dreams as people. It’s crazy. Ed Sheeran is such a great example of the power of story. Ed’s a powerful songwriter, who wholeheartedly believes in the songs he creates and shares. It’s inspiring.”

What’s up and coming for Dalton Cyr?  He’s currently in the middle of producing an album with Mikal Blue (best known for his work with Colbie CaillatJason ReevesJason MrazFive For Fighting and OneRepublic) and is planning on meeting with significant labels once it’s done.  He’s working with the Pledge Music Program to fund the project and having fun giving fans a glimpse of the production process and what goes into finding a label. After releasing his film trilogy “Breathe,” which raises awareness of the danger and impact of distracted driving, he’s teamed up with Teens Against Distracted Driving. Cyr is on a mission to share the film trilogy (which is in a music video format) in schools and organizations across the nation. After viewing the film, Cyr invites drivers to sign a pledge that they will put their phones away before getting behind the wheel, assuring that they’ll live to tell their story another day.
